The End of the World

The town of Ushuaia lies on the shores of the Beagle Channel, a community which depends on fishing, heavy industry and tourism for its livelihood. Based on its geographic location, it´s known as the city at the end of the world. Founded in the late 1800s, it is the capital of the desolate, sparsely-populated, mountainous and windswept triangular island of Tierra del Fuego, which lies to the south of the Magellan Straits. The city is an excellent base from which to explore Lapataia National Park, the Martial Glacier which overlooks the town, or from which to take one of the many boat excursions along the Beagle Channel, spotting the regional wildlife: sea lions, penguins, cormorants and more in a natural habitat of spectacular and remote beauty.

Highlights

Tierra del Fuego National Park

Visit the Tierra del Fuego National Park and take an easy hike or a ride on the End of the World steam train. For lovers of hiking, there are diverse trail options with the difficulty levels perfectly marked. Lapataia Bay is one of the recommended spots to visit. On a gravel road leading you through a beech forest, the path opens to a clearing unlike what might be expected at "the end of the world". Discover the microclimate there, resulting from the protection that the Cordillera de los Andes provides.

Beagle Channel Navigation

Starting at the touristic pier, you will have a view of the most important buildings in the city as the navigation commences. From there, the scenery is a combination of mountains and sea. Discover the Five Brothers and Olivia mountains, the Tata Fique, Estancia Túnel, and the Encajonado River on the journey. Sailing southwest, across to the middle of the Canal de Beagle, you arrive at the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse at the archipelago of the same name.

Gateway to Antarctica

Thanks to its privileged location, Ushuaia is the access route to the majestic Seventh Continent. It´s a must to stop in Ushuaia to acclimatize and make the most of the natural beauty featured by the southernmost city in the world. Whether discovering pre- or post-cruise bespoke experiences, or to simply relax and enjoy the unique landscapes, Ushuaia has an entire infrastructure to assist in receiving big cruises and expedition ships.

The White Continent attracts and captivates any tourist who visits it; emblematic and endemic flora & fauna surrounded by enigmatic and virgin nature scenery are all the perfect excuse to embark on a real adventure. Cross the Drake Passage to the wonderful kingdom of the Emperor Penguin, whose character reflects the quiet, pristine white environment that crowns it.
