There are several nature reserves with various species of marine fauna and flora along coastal Patagonia, but none of them offer such a spectacular concentration of wildlife as is found in Península Valdes.
Every year, the southern right whale starts arriving to Peninsula Valdes in early May. The number of visiting whales increases daily and this is the time when El Doradillo - a beach on the way from Puerto Madryn to Puerto Piramides - becomes the most suitable place to watch and closely interact with them from the coast. At the beginning of September, Peninsula Valdes reaches its maximum in the numbers of whales there.
Here you will find one of the biggest colonies of Magellanic Penguins in the world. At the nature reserve, you will be able to get very close to the penguins and observe their behaviour.
The entire peninsula is a huge nature reserve and where several working estancias are located. Visit one of the local ranches to enjoy their engaging activities as a great way to be close to the indigenous wildlife.
